Ibrahim Naovaf, GR:
- Thank God you’re back, we’re all very excited about this. Yarah, tell us where you are today?
Yarah Saleh (RC):
- I was at home, has just returned and was surrounded by my caring family.
Ibrahim Naovaf:
- You are surrounded by the whole family, relatives and friends, and all look forward to your return. Surely you already “filled up” by calls, so we do not want you to trouble and waste your time. It is important to know what happened with you and your colleagues during the six days when you stay in captivity in Tal-Amnin and through what experience you went through?
RC:
- We were sent from Damascus to the city of Tal to make his report. And we went there as a crew, which should at any point on earth to shoot something or other event. When we went to the city of Tal, we were stopped by armed men, and started asking “Who are you?” Well, we said that we – “Al-Ikhbariya.” When they heard this, it seemed the rage broke out in their eyes, immediately they began to swear, they beat, humiliating us. For example, I was not so much beaten, because I am a girl, my colleagues are not spared. There’s blood was shed, and one of our guys, the operator – Hatem Abu Yehiya, was killed.
Ibrahim Naovaf:
- It is the militants who killed him?
RC:
- Yes, they are.
Ibrahim Naovaf:
- The militants have made a video to say that the Syrian army has killed Hatem?
RC:
- Yes, I was threatened and forced to say it on camera under the threat of death. They made me say that Hatem was killed during the storming of the Syrian army. It’s all a lie! Terrorists have killed him. The driver of our crew saw Hatem gone with armed militants on the death penalty, and he saw the body of Hatem joined about 60 bullets.
Ibrahim Naovaf:
- What happened with you?
RC:
- They kill only the driver. The only reason they killed him not in front of us – did not want to spoil the blood in the room where we were kept.
Ibrahim Naovaf:
- Where there was room in which you held? It is under the ground or in a building, or where?
RC:
- There are some buildings in which the entrenched terrorists. We were kept in the building of state institutions and, as a public building, so they built a very strong and withstand even an earthquake. They turned the buildings into their base, and we moved to somewhere in the 7-8 houses. This was not a living home. And we are now in the cellars and underground places where there is no sunlight. We really did not have enough daylight.
Ibrahim Naovaf:
- Want to ask you a question, but you respond to it at will, if you can. How were you fed as applied, whether the conditions of hygiene, etc?
RC:
- In the early days for them, even such a thing could not exist as a wash and tidy ourselves up. And for the second day, when news of our kidnapping was spread, everyone knew about their crimes, and so on, they were ordered from abroad on how to kill us, we will leverage the pressure to carry out their evil intentions. I even asked them: “If you can implement your plans, you release us?”. They said, ‘No, we will leave to affect anything else! “. On the fourth day we were allowed to wash. Note, do not bathe or wash our things, and just wash my face and hands. We have washed our hands with drinking water, even conventional detergents such as soap or something else was not.
The first day we had feed, and then began to give us the dried remains of the bread. Sometimes for 24 hours without eating.
Ibrahim Naovaf:
- Tell me, are there any foreigners among these, who kidnapped you? And were there were still hostages, except you?
RC:
- Yes, we’ve heard that there were still hostages, which could allegedly be involved in the government and might be useful to terrorists. Among the terrorists we saw Saudis and Libyans, we heard telephone conversations and heard no Syrian dialects. When I saw their faces, they look incredible spectacle – long beards, shaved his mustache … I saw them Islamic extremism and fanaticism. They even asked where we are and what kind of faith, before asking our names. When they learned that we do not like them, then they hreatened to kill us. Every 10-15 minutes, someone came and said that he will tear us apart. Everyone came and told his imagination: someone wanted to put a whole clip into us, someone wanted to dismember, decapitate someone, someone cut the throat, etc. This continued every 10-15 minutes for 6 days. As a woman I never subjected to such abuse.
Ibrahim Naovaf:
- Yar, but as you are released, and how you met the family and friends?
RC:
- I’ll shorten the story. Militants have decided to move to another place of Tal-Amnin at 12 o’clock at night. They take us away to the place of their fees. By the way, there have been a lot of losses because they have big defeat in the battle with the heroes of the Syrian army. So at this point, apparently, our army has overheard their conversation and realized future plans of the terrorists. The Army also learned that we are with them in captivity. And when the gunmen came out of the city with us, it immediately appeared in the sky flares and started shooting. My colleagues and I were separated, but they heard firing, immediately began to run. And when we have already met after our liberation, the three of us were surprised that we did not come under fire. We did not shoot nobody. Our soldiers are very clever. They shoot far from us, so we are saved, they shot just there, where shooting came. As we did not shoot anybody, all the bullets were flying in fighters.
Ibrahim Naovaf:
- How much militants where there?
RC:
- In the moment of our capture they were about 800 people. And when we were out of town, they were much smaller. Their number did not exceed 200 people. And all these criminal crowd held us in capture.
Ibrahim Naovaf:
- Militants do not try to seize you, or to prevent you from escaping?
RC:
- They tried, but we were hiding us from them, when the flares stopped for a moment. And then, when the soldiers of our army advanced to us, we were under their protection, and ran toward them and told them that we are that same crew, which was been captured. And they told us that they know who we are and are just searching us.
